This letter intends to inform operators of HiMSEN DF engine of safety function update in Diesel mode.
HiMSEN DF engine has additional sensors, comparison with conventional diesel engine, like cylinder pressure/vibration sensors. Those sensors are installed for safety functionality of gas mode. By applying those sensors to diesel mode also, we have improved the stability of operation. To apply this update to delivered engines, please contact us for service arrangement.

Recently we’ve experienced that the intake valve clearance exceeded the specification. According to the onboard inspection, we found the intake valve clearance was improperly adjusted due to DVT application.
In case of DVT application, the valve clearance could be adjusted improperly due to the spring inside of DVT. In this regard, non-adjusting side of intake rocker arm should be fully compressed several times.

As the number of delivered NoNOx SCR is getting increased, NOx sensor(MES 1001, Danfoss IXA) claims have been reported, especially UV lamp contamination.
Recently, we investigated NOx sensor completes considered as UV lamp contamination and found that interior of the sensor showed signs of missing maintenance, excessive amounts of oil on the cooler(picture 2&3 marked with red arrow on picture 2), on the inside of the backend(picture 4&5 marked with read arrows), on the pneumatic air distributor block and on the inside of compressed air tubes.
It was revealed that the oil penetration could occur by air filter element which was not replaced periodically as per the maker’s maintenance plan. Since the oil penetration could bring an uncertainty regarding uptime operation since the oil could result in future malfunction of the sensor, we strongly recommend the vessel to replace air filter element at least every half year(table. 1).
